Fished Ridley Creek above the dam this afternoon from about one until about four. The temperature was in the high 60's sunny, slightly breezy and the leaves are turning. It was a beautiful day. Not nearly as many anglers as last weekend. The water temperature was about 60°. There were leaves in the water, but I didn't get hung up too often.
I tried a BWO emerger, olive caddis, foam hopper and royal wolf before having some success on a size 16 tan elk hair caddis. I got three red breast sun fish in about a ten to fifteen minute window, and then a little bit later I hooked up with feisty 11 or 12 inch brown, which jumped out of the water twice. I called it a day after that.
I don't know if the DNCR or TU did some creek maintenance or if we just had more rain than I realized, but a couple of downed trees seemed to have changed position, and the flow seemed MUCH better than last week. Though it's possible my memory is just wrong and it was all due to rain.
The dog walkers in and around this creek don't seem to care one bit about sending their dogs into the water right where you're fishing. I also had a couple walk right into my back cast (luckily no one got hit), but I would have never known to roll cast if I hadn't turned around (one minute I was by myself, then they were there and then they were gone).
