Quittaphilla Creek, Lebanon Co., 2/6/11

Was a nice day so I got out for a couple of hours after church. Caught 1 pretty rainbow, was nice to get out. Fished the delayed harvest area, water temp 45, oat around 38. Slighted off colored. I don't there is many fish left from the fall stocking.

I do have a question, I noticed a very large amount of weeds on the bottom of the creek, anyone know if that goes away when the temps warm up? I can't remember ever seeing that much there ever.

Increase in temps/day light usually increase weed growth.

I wanted to get out Sunday too but...

I did fish the Quitty on New Years Eve and miss quite a few. I think trying straight mono instead of a tapered leader was giving me too much slack; was not stiff enough.

Anyway, the fish that I missed were taking real subtle and spitting the nymph pretty quick. Mostly, I would strike and see the fish roll.

Nice to see someone had a better hand than me.

Ok, sorry this is a really stupid question but I think I fished this stream once about 14 years ago.Is it out near Harrisburg?Maybe college nearby?If I remember right the stream I was thinking of had few riffles and seemed to have alot of claybanks,was a work in progress as the town had made a sort of greenway along the stream.Sorry can't remember much more I know a I caught a few browns and worked darn hard to catch them.

yes, near harrisburg... lebanon valley college about 2 blocks away from the quittie nature park which has a nice path along it's length. DHALO area along this stretch.

yes thats the place would be a great stream if they would let there be some instream work get done seems above that area its frog water real slow looks like a canal.

There was a thread a while back on the Quittie. Do a search and you can probably dig it up. DHALO area gets pounded and the stream suffers from being downstream of Lebanon City (lots of trash along the banks, warm runoff, etc.). It is a picturesque setting though and very accessible.

Yes, it gets pounded and people remove the fish even after the fall stocking, it's a shame. I like to fish if a few times a year for convience.

I went to Lebanon Valley College, and fished the Quitti religously for all 4 years. There are some great fish in there ALL year around. Ive never seen a time when it was "fished out". Some holes may be fished harder than others, but there were always fish. From what I have heard the watewr quality is not that bad now, however it has not completely re couped from the past. This is definitely evident in the lack of bug life in the dH. With that said however, Every feb mar there are great stone fly hatches in the lower part of the DH and in may there were always alot of caddis. Im not sure how many exactly but in the coure of 4 years I caught quite a few fish over 20 inches there, most of which looked like hold overs, as they had all their fins and nice colors. It took me a while to figure that stream out, but it was and still is totlly worth it!

..I went out and fished the Quitty today in Anville,the park section...about 4 other people fishing ,the water was off color ,nice hatch,looked like cadis flys, ,nothing rising and nothing hitting on nymphs,..still it weas a good day even though i took the bagel
