Quittapahilla Creek, Lebanon County PA 8-22-14

Water level was normal depth, clear and 62 degrees. Weather was warm in the upper 70's. Skies were clear and cloudy at times. No rain.

I fished from 8AM to approx. 1PM. 6 fish total, each one was over 14 inches. One fish measured approx. 18 inches.

Reading the forums I decided to use a braided leader that I had. I added 2 feet of 5x and 1.5 feet of 6x tippet. I started the morning with a San Ron foam Hopper in black and tan with a San Juan worm in red with a brass bead. I caught 3 fish on the San Juan worm. No looks or strikes on the hopper.

I then switched to a Stimulator in size 14 with a Muskrat nymph on a dropper. I missed 3 strikes on the Stimulator and caught three more trout on the Muskrat Nymph.

The last time I fished this creek there was snow on the ground. There seem to be good numbers of fish in the creek.

Nice! When I was living in Lebanon County I always meant to fish this stream. Never did make it there though. I always just ended up on the Tulpehocken because it was closer. Doesn't it have a delayed harvest section or something like that?

Yes this is a Delayed Harvest - Artificial Lures Only section. I fished this stretch my first time out with a fly rod over 20 years ago. It's always nice to go back to it.

That river will always be special to me. I fished it ALOT during my 4 years at Lebanon valley college...I caught some great fish and truly enjoyed that stream. I liked that it fished well in many dif ways...streamers, midges, terrestrials...they all worked. I will never understand why so many people hate on the quitti...

It can be tough, for me it's a nymphing game. I always catch some. It's real close to my house. They don't seem to be too picky either. Just have to be nymphs.

Fished the Quitty in the park a lot when I was living in Lebanon. Always had fun and caught fish. Terrestrials were the ticket as I recall. Not many hatches back then.
