Parked near the bridge where 219 crosses over the Quemahoning Creek. Water temp was 51 degrees and nothing was coming off. Started near the bridge and it is a bear to access the creek. Went down stream and caught 2. Headed upstream (way upstream) and things picked up. I ended up with 21 very nice trout. Almost all were rainbow and 3 or 4 were brownies. I did get a native brookie (I think it was because of color and size) but all the others were holdovers. Most were above 13 inches with a few 16 inches plus. I got them all on streamers (olive and tan). Water was a nice level and a bit off color. I believe no one fishes this stream because of the difficulty accessing it and only gets stocked in early spring by a sportsman club (I think). I must have walked a few miles upstream and it is very slippery. I went down twice but in shallow water. Great stream if you like pocket water fishing and fast current.

Nice Pictures. Excellent day of fishing for you. After a long hot, dry summer, it's nice to see that there are places that still have some live, catchable trout. I've driven north on Rt. 219 from Somerset to Johnstown area many times and never knew it was a trout stream. I haven't seen Quemahoning on the state stocking schedule. I always thought it had mine drainage. Are you talking about the section from the Rt 219 crossover west over to Rt. 601 in Boswell? Do you know if the stream going south from Boswell on 601 is fishable and holds trout?
I'm not sure how many years ago they cleaned up the stream from the mine drainage. The Que Creek does flow through Boswell, under 219, and into the Quemahoning Dam. Most people probably still think it polluted and if you look at the water and the rocks they do have a bit of orange stain to them. After you pass the Jerome exit off 219 and before you get to rt 30 exit you will cross over the stream. They are doing construction on the bridge right now so you can park with all the other cars and head down to the creek. I don't believe it is legal to park on an interstate road but with all the other cars how would they know. Like I said it is very hard to access the stream ( you even have to jump a fence) and even harder to walk in the water but if you have studded waders and a stick it will help significantly. It's nice to fish a stream that little to no pressure. And some may say by posting this post it will start to get some pressure. But if you handle to accessabilty issue to the stream and the difficulty of wading it more power to you.
