Fishing for wild trout doesn't benefit wild trout.

I 100% disagree. People who truly care about wild trout, who are mostly those who fish for them, are the people who advocate for their protection. We are the whistleblowers. We are the ones who cause a stink to help protect the resource. We are the ones in the know about what exists and what we have to lose, so when something is threatening Penns or the Little J, we speak up about it and we care. All of that passion and fire stems from fishing for wild trout.

And as for the people who always talk about "creating awareness" they generally are just all talk and no action. The only awareness spread is of sharing all the places the wild fish live and blowing them up on the internet which does more harm than good for the fish they all love so much. Anyone who thinks the internet has helped wild trout is kidding themselves. The increase in fishing pressure has not helped the fish.

One can fish for wild trout and also care and advocate for preserving and improving wild trout waters.

I KNOW Jigsy really cares about wild trout, and yet he is the last person, IMHO, to blow up locations on the Internet or do anything else to harm these waters and fish.

Back when I strictly spin fished, I did catch my share using spinners, but NOTHING outfished the tail half of a nightcrawler. I'd go as far as to say, in the long run, it's THE best way to catch a trout, stocked or wild, hands down.

Strictly a spinner fisherman. And, nobody does it better than him. I've used spinners made by Frank, they work amazingly well.

I thought the brookies they used to stock were decent tasting. The bows and browns do nothing for me.

I unapologetically fish a couple of stocked streams annually, but most often use the stocking schedule to know when NOT to go fishing to avoid crowds...

One is a not so local STW where I caught my first trout so it always a sentimental journey to make at least one pilgrimage a season. I usually go a couple of weeks AFTER the last stocking and have a blast and the stream pretty much to myself.

That being said, when you have two stocked streams less than 10 minutes from your front door that I can drive right up to the stream, park, walk 10 feet or less and fish from the bank for 10 minutes to 10 hours and catch & release a ton of fish...

Sign me up!!

FWIW - I also have a plethora of Class A water as close as the bottom of my property or 10-15 minutes away, but fishing them is usually more involved and sometimes I don't have the time or want the hassle.

I still enjoy the shenanigans of opening weekend. This year will be the 50th anniversary of our group going away together for opening weekend, 38th year for myself. I’ve got to say though, ever since they moved opening day from April 15th to April 1st it’s absolutely killed the opener in the western half of the state. I think creeks have been flooded every single year since the change. At most we’ve fished an hour or two opening day then sit around the rest of the weekend where back in the day we’d fish 10 hours a day for 3-4 days in a row.

My favorite local creek is being stocked preseason, then the Saturday after the opener and that’s it for the year. It used to get second stocking early May to spread the fish out longer into the year.

I detest the “kids day” as well which is often 4 adults taking one kid out and fishing for themselves the week before the real opener. PAFBC could screw up anything, I swear.

Not likely that there was fish food in the form of pellets being fed to cultured carp in Europe in the 1800’s. You could begin your research with the fine Smithsonian Institute review of common carp introduction history, etc at www.invasions.si.edu and then let everyone here know what you found out.
