Had to get my wild rainbow fix for the season, on what's probably my last trip of the season before archery starts!
Drove out Friday around noon and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Cranberry. Got a decent night's sleep and hit the stream by 7:30AM Sat.
The stream had very good flow, especially for late summer. Actually a bit high! Water was a perfect temp though, at 60F with some color from the rain storms very early Sat.
I started fishing from the bridge on President Rd, just upstream of where the Porcupine dumps into Hemlock.
Started out very slowly, but around 9:00AM I managed my first trout, a decent little wild rainbow on a parachute Adams. A short time later I caught a pretty wild brown on a green weenie. I said to myself, "now all you need is a native brookie to complete the wild trout trifecta".
Believe it or not, on my very next cast I caught that native! I now had my 5th WTT!! Not very many streams that you can do that on.
The rest of the day was fairly slow, with some missed strikes. I did finish with a total of 5 small wild rainbows, two natives, and a pretty, but small wild brown. The trifecta made the 6.5 hour trip worthwhile!
