Pohopoco Creek, 8/23/2014 Carbon County

Curious about Pohopoco Creek so I decided to give it a try. Arrived right before lunch. A little drizzle but the creek was clear. I parked near the dam and fished downstream. Used a size 14 fire ant for my first at bat. I casted to the bank as was recommended in previous posts and immediately picked up feisty 10 inch rainbow. Made a few more casts and missed a smaller rainbow. Next cast I snagged the bushes and lost my fly. The new fire ant yielded no results so I tied on a black one. Landed a smaller rainbow after several casts along the bank. I was surprised to see how shallow this stream really is compared to its width. Continue to fish the rest of the afternoon towards the USGS Gage. Landed a few small rainbows missed several more, nothing big. Small sulfurs? and yellow sallies hatching in the evening. Water was COLD! Feet still chilled. If anyone can provide me some information about fishing downstream near rte 209 much appreciated.

Well the flow is at 60cfs...the section you fished really has no structure other then the over hanging rhododendron and bushes. In regards to 209. Just don't park in the construction site. You will be ticketed and possibly towed.

There are many sections of the Po that are better then the dam section.

I stopped by there yesterday as well. Downstream of where you were. There was actually a good hatch of olives from about 2:00-4:00. There was lighter colored size 16-18s that did look like sulphurs from a distance and then there where also some smaller size 22 ish ones as well. Did pretty well. Caught around 20 fish on olive emergers. 1 brown around 12-13 inch and the rest were pretty much in the 8-10 inch range, all browns. The water was very cold, I didn't take a temp but I would guess it was under 60.
