Fished it tonight, It's a tailwater so water temps are fine.
Dorothea's everywhere and fish eatin um.....Good Fishin for sure!
 
I caught rainbows in a few different age classes.....They've been stocking fingerling bows for a few years I think. The last time I was there a buddy caught a clipped bow first I ever saw that there. Same guy caught a clipped bow on the Lehigh as well. I got one rainbow in the 10in range that looked to be a holdover. As far as I know they dont stock adult rainbows and if thats the case the fingerlings are doing well. Some nice holdover browns too 14-16in!
 
I was there on the 21st with Redsun from this forum. Caught mix of browns and bows. Caught a nice 18" brown at that lower dam above the bridge. There was some really nice browns hanging out in the slack water on the "other" side below that bridge Water had reversing current making the drift all but impossible and the water was practically standing still, so they got too good of a look at everything I threw at them. jfetkin and I were there on Memorial day and the water levels were up quite a bit more and he tangled with those fish in that specific area a number of times.

That stocking association apparently had stocked the **** out of the Lehigh the week before at the Poho confluence. Not sure why as the Lehigh is too warm, even in the Poho confluence. I would like to go to one of the stocking associations meeting sometime to see if the general membership is reflective of the members I have meet on the stream. I wonder if the metal stringer hanging off the wading belt is standard issue? Seriously, I have meet some strange folks there.
 
Once you travel through the Gap or over the moutain and out the LV it's a whole different world. I was up above Parryville last night. I try and stay away from Parryville unless Im at the Riverwalck taking in the sights over one of those hug mugs of yuengling.
 
As for the LRSA I think they did that to sell memeberships money first resouce second like everything else. From the Parryville dam to the 895 bridge on the Lehigh should be closed from June 15 to Sept 15 every year as a thermal refuge, because the amount of fish that stack up near on the pohopco is disgusting and everybody and their brother know's the fish are there and they just pound the crap outta them. It was so dumb for LRSA to stock more fish there at that time all it did was fuel the fire!
 
I love the sign hanging in the tree that you can see from the deck that says "You catch it, we cook it, with sides $9.95". Now that is a put and take culture!

That place is pretty much a trap IMO. You are sitting there fishing, minding your own business, and they fire up that smoker around 10:00 AM. Around noon I have drool slobbering down my face. Monday I had some smoked sausage that had smoked pulled pork smothering it with slaw piled on top. Sweet savior that was good. My only complaint is their draft selection. That place is way too cool to have such crappy draft beer selection. Of course you do make a good point about being in Parryville . . .
 
did you catch any of the rainbow fingerlings they put in last fall?

Like Alpha, I caught a variety of year class. When I was there on Memorial day I caught a nice sized bow that was very nicely colored. This week the bows seemed to be washed out in my opinion. Maybe it was the fresh stocking that the local LRSA hill-jack was talking about?

BTW, Greenman how is your case going against the Philly Phanatic?
 
Yeah I was told last fall that they put an additional 90,000 rainbow fingerlings that they had nowhere to go with in there... And last fall they were everywhere. you couldn't keep them off your fly. I only went back a couple times this spring and managed to catch what were surely some of those fingerlings, so I was just curious if you were catching any.

Yeah the fingerling deal has been going on now for a few years 3 or 4 that I can remember didnt fish the Poh much last year and this was the 2nd time this year but last night was the first time I caught rainbows over 10in. The stocking report says they stock rainbows in the fall and not spring so the fish must be a hold overs or fingerlings.
 
I like the Po, and really think it could be a better fishery at producing consistently big fish if management (PFBC) was a bit better. The shame of it is, is really just gets treated like a stockie receptacle. Adults/fingerlings....of all species. What a joke.

And not sure if any of you guys, take a look at the temp release from Beltzville currently, and then compare to the data available long term on the USGS site. Right now it is running a full 5-7F warmer than ever before. Surely this is not due to running out of cold water. It is there. In my opinion there is no reason for this, and the PFBC is not doing their job holding the Corps feet to fire so to speak with how they are running the water.

This stream is a poster child of apathy for the PFBC.
 
I think it's running at 64 which is fine but it could be 55 which would be better.
 
in the past this reservoir has pumped out 55 F water all summer long. The Corps apparently is blaming the temps on valve issues and the fact they are meeting Ch 93 minimum temp targets. But betweeen April and mid-May the temps were 45 F...????

Its not freakin rocket science...just a matter of manipulating the valves differently at various times of the year.

Both agencies PFBC & ACOE are dropping the ball on this one. One of which is being blatant, the other is lack of making an effort... The entire thing stinks

I understand the points made, and they should do better... but 65 degrees is completely fine. Yes, they should pump it colder. But it's not exactly a "waste of a trout fishery" if they pump 65 all summer. You lost me there.
 
Your right Jay 65 is fine. 50-55 would help cool a small area of the Lehigh and provide refuge to some trout there.
 
65 F water turns in to 72F + water by the time it reaches the Lehigh. ALso, how far down stream do you think water temps reach 68F....I'd bet not very far on days like we have been having, so by releasing 65 F water it limits the fishery.

And, Its not fine when past operations have proven they have the capability to do so and keep the stream cooler. Seems fishy now?
 
My point is that you're more convincing when you leave the hyperbole out. And I know I'm not alone in thinking that.

The bridge construction right above the Po confluence is another issue. Seems to be less insect life, but I guess that will turn around after construction is over.
 
i know it was cold enough the other day when I might of slipped/fell and a certain part of my anatomy went into hiding in the lower part of my abdomen..



nice stream i liked it. but the FOOOOD was the best. they had the High Life in a bottle so it passed my beer of choice requirement.

i will eat the uncle joes the next time i go up so i can get the t-shirt and pic on the wall.
