Poconos 11/7-11/8 Monroe County

Got out for a couple days in the Poconos this past weekend. Weather was beautiful and fishing was good as well. Saturday fished the Brodhead in the parks and got 8 fish or so. Mix between stocker bows and some wild browns. Fish ate Pats rubberlegs and 18 pts.

Sunday brought me to a remote section of a stream I fish all the time. No fish are stocked in this section. Its quite the hike in but the fishing was worth it. Bunch of tiny olives were coming Off too. Ended up catching 5 bows, which i thought was very odd that i didnt catch a brown. This area mostly has browns in it. I think the bows are wild, because once they were hooked they took off just like Delaware fish. Aerials, into the backing ect. Fish were nicely colored up and fat. Ive been told by local guys that in the fall these bows come out of the Delaware. What do you guys think based on the pics and info?

Its hard to get a great look at the fish but they look wild. I can't help you out with if they come from the DE or not. As far as how they fight,

I fish a river system in WNY that is overrun with wild rainbows (to the point where you can easily catch 20+ in a morning, and a 12-inch fish is very big). In my experience a rainbow in that system fights much harder than a similar sized wild brown trout in that system (and also is easier to catch).

Stocked...based on dorsal fin being abnormal. Beautiful fish though.

I've heard talk of browns coming out of the Delaware in the Fall to spawn in the lower Brodhead but never rainbows.

I mean ive caught holdover fish that fight just like stockies..but im talking running like steelhead. Noone will ever know where these fish come from. Just puzzles me

You're right about the dorsal, it does look a little mangled. Almost all the bows i caught had a dorsal like that, probably just holdovers then. But doesnt matter to me, i will definitely be back. Hard fighting fish, great scenery, and noone else around is my kind of fishing.

Hm, so the second stream is stocked somewhere lower, runs into the Delaware, and has accessible stretches out in the middle of the woods. Very interesting... (Not that I'm necessarily trying to poach your spot... but I am trying to poach your spot.)

Clearly of stocked origin. Fin shape is as others mentioned, but fin colors ( white highlights) are not developed to the extent that I would expect for RT that had been in the wild for even six months.. Also, vents are distended as are those that have been on a "high growth" feeding program.

Forever green is a really nice section of stream. The paradise dumps in right above it. The occasional stockie escapee from club water above gets into the water in the preserve. But its mostly wild fish. Had a buddy catch a couple nice tigers up there, its worth exploring.

I just wasnt sure. Ive seen wild fish that were beat up on the delaware but they were clearly wild. These fish ive just heard rumors about and the way they fought made me think the possibility of being wild.

Fished the brodhead again yesterday. Water was at prime levels and weather was great. Brought 9 fish to hand on rubberleg stoneflies and 18 pts

Skunked at Forevergreen for the 2nd time yesterday. Yet to actually see any evidence of fish there first-hand.

The Cherry Lane Road bridge to the south of the entrance? I've never gone down that far because I thought it was posted (by the house between the bridge and the entrance to Forevergreen parking lot). Me and a buddy fished from roughly due east of the clubhouse/outbuilding by the parking lot up to the cell phone tower. Been there with a few people, all throwing different stuff, with no success.

Its an odd section. Ive fished it in the dead of winter with success, but been there prime time and not seen anything.
