Haven't ever posted one of these so please bear with me.
Took 2 of my boys and my father-in-law to his camp in Cammal from 6/16 - 6/18. (My father-in-law did most of his catching the week before when there was more water in the creeks.)
First evening on Pine Creek at Black Walnut Bottom (near the downstream end of the C+R section)
Water was 76-78 Degrees, low and super-clear.
One of us landed a legal-size smallmouth on a 16 BWO and no trout.
Moved downstream to the Ross Run access and missed a few on BWOs and slate drakes between the run and the big flat rocks on the opposite side.
Came back the next morning to the Pine at Ross Run and the water temp was in the upper 50s and started climbing when the sun hit the water. Each of us landed at least one brown or rainbow in the 10-12" range - all on a variety of BWO spinners size 16 or 18.
Went to the Little Pine upstream from the lake and across from the gun range (we just call it the clay bank). Dad didn't stay long since he was tired from the trip. The boys and I managed a couple browns or rainbows. The youngest son got a pretty native brown about 7-8" and also caught the biggest fish of the trip - a 16" holdover brown. We were all using 16 light cahills or light cahill parachutes. Didn't get a temperature but it was notably cooler than the Big Pine.
Last morning was back on the Pine Creek at Ross Run and we all fished downstream from the run. The youngest son took 4 and the other 3 of us got one or 2. The only fly that worked was a BWO spinner, except for one on a 14 black ant when the fish weren't actively working. Water temp was already over 76 by the time we got on the water around 8:00-9:00.
The report at Slate Run Tackle Shop is noting that the "season" on the Pine is basically over this week with the water running so low and warm. The night fishing should still be good, as well as smallmouth fishing.
Regards.
