Pine Creek, Tioga County, 6/3-6/5

Got to Pine Creek for our annual camp/fishing trip on Friday evening. When we got there the water was still high but fishable with not much bug action caught 2 that night had another hooked but it got loose. Woke up Saturday morning and fished until about 1:00 had a great morning, the water was dropping fast and the fish were hungry! I caught 11, all underneath. Went back to camp and then headed into Wellsboro and waited out the rain in The Gas Light. Went back to our camping area for evening fishing the fish were finally starting to look at the surface and I caught 3 on top and missed a few more. Sunday was probably the nicest day weather wise. Woke up and went went out and missed 3 underneath but got one on top. Drakes started to hatch for the first time while we were there at about 11:00 then it just got too warm. All in all a great weekend. Every fish I caught was over 12" none over 15".

nice report, i was also up in that region this weekend. I didn't get to fish as much as i would have liked to (24/7), because it was more of a vacation rather than a fishing trip, which i just realized is becoming a disturbing trend. Got into cedar run too late to fish on friday. I wanted to get up early saturday morn but after a long week at work and a long drive up there it didn't happen. We saw a lot of coffin flies off the bridge at cedar run. Fished little pine around midday on saturday. I caught a nice bow on a green drake wet and my girlfriend took a nice bow on a rooster tail. Things were looking good, then it started to rain. We only got about an hour of fishing in before it chased us off. Water level was high, but the clarity was good. Fished big pine that evening for about 45 minutes. Only caught 1, but the one i caught was a 20 inch brookie. Didn't see much surface activity and i was hungry so i gave up at about quarter til 8. Woke up at 5 the next morning and fished cedar run. My line was wet just as the sun was rising, so i expected to have some good results as my experience is the fish in slate and cedar are much more difficult to catch in broad daylight. Nada. As the day went on and my skunking was setting in i slowly gave up on fishing the pools and just focused on trying to even see a trout. that didn't happen either. What's the deal with slate and cedar? They've fished awful for me over the past 3 yrs and I've had several experiences like my last, where you start to wonder if there are even trout in there. I wouldn't always catch a lot there, but i'd usually at least catch something, and would occasionally have some really good days. Water temp was 52, saw a few sporadic bugs coming off. Looked like a few sulphurs, mbs, and a caddis.

I've had fabulous results on cedar using a size 14 elk hair caddis and size 14 yellow foam body sallie. Fish the pockets and fast, not the pools. Fish upstream from the 1st bridge on your way up toasted leetonia. Good luck

thanks for the info midgeman. While i didn't fish the area you mentioned, i fished on both sides of it. I started upstream around fawnystock. I fished that stretch hard, fishing pockets, and pools. After getting nothing there i thought i might be too far upstream, so i drove back down to the bridge where you're talking about and fished downstream. I'll admit i didn't fish as hard there. At that point my confidence was pretty low, so i mostly tried to spot fish and enjoy my beautiful surroundings. Slate and cedar will always be enigmatic streams to me. They wouldn't have the same appeal if they weren't, so a skunking every now and then reminds me who is in charge there and keeps me driven. Prolly shoulda fished the evening.
