Had some great fishing and great weather this weekend. Started off cloudy and cool with rather high water on Thursday afternoon, but caught a bunch before supper in fast water on a beadhead pheasant tail nymph under a gold ribbed hares ear beadhead. Water level gradually decreased through Saturday, and wading became more doable--with a staff, that is. Friday morning there were a few yellowish flies hatching, and caught a couple brook trout before switching back to my pair of nymphs and catching a few browns. A few more on the nymphs in quite fast current in the evening and gave me a real fight.
Fished a tributary Saturday morning which had run off quickly and was actually rather low--caught some wild brookies on a Royal Coachman. Saturday afternoon was a veritable boatfest on Pine--more canoes, kayaks, etc. came through than I've ever seen in an afternoon, along with plenty of minnow spin fishermen who were doing quite well. Come Saturday evening, I had a whole stretch to myself and a great March Brown hatch occurred 7:30-8:30 pm in the shallower, slower section I was fishing. Trout jumping all over the place (recently stocked, i heard, but fun nevertheless). Caught at least nine before getting too tired.
