Pine Creek, Potter County, 9/18/2010

I fished the Pine Creek at West Pike a few weeks ago from about 10 am-1 pm.

Water: Low, clear, temp upper 50s
Weather: Partly cloudy, breezy, air temps 55-62.
Hatches: very little observed, a sparse caddis and small mayfly here and there

Results: 4 rainbows taken on a mix of Czech nymphs, green weenies, and buggers.


After fishing I stopped at Big Meadows Fly Shop, in Ansonia for the first time. I got to meet "Sandfly", meet the trout catching dog, and saw the flock that supplies specialty hackle to the customers. I spent over an hour learning about the fishing around Ansonia and being introduced to tying materials that I have never seen. I got a lot of information and only spent a couple dollars on flies. I highly suggest stopping by the shop sometime. I've been driving past the shop for the past 6 years on my way to fish streams in Potter County. I've always wanted to stop and finally made time to do so. Check out Big Meadows Fly Shop! It is certainly a unique shop with a unique owner.

All kidding aside if you ever get a chance to get up sandfly's way ,stop in and say hello ,great guy and very knowledgeable !

But don't ever fish with him if you are catching fish and he isn't he'll snag your line and steal the fly off of your tippet. To this I can attest.

No they welcome us with open arms ,they roll out the red carpet
Each time we go I have to carry a bigger bag ,(all the giveaways)
