Pine Creek near Slate Run, Lycoming Co., 10/20-22/17

Fished Pine Creek between Slate Run and Clark Farm last weekend (10-20 to 10-22). Stream was pretty low and very clear. The weather was upper 60s and sunny. Sporadic hatches of various types. The only thing significant was the tan caddis. Plenty of rising fish though, and we caught several large browns up near Slate, and lots of rainbows further down near Walnut Bottom and Clark Farm. For the most part, I fished a parachute Adams with a small bead head dropper. As usual, caught most fish on the dropper. In fact I think the only thing I caught on the Adams were fallfish, some over a foot long. Caught a few spinning with a crack-back Rapala as well. Saw about 5 bald eagles, or more likely, saw the same bald eagle 5 times over the weekend. Fabulous weekend all in all. Hopefully it will be warm when I head back up over Veterans' Day weekend.

I'M NOT PROUD. I'LL CATCH FOOT LONG FALL FISH ALL DAY IN THAT WEATHER IN A CREEK THAT PRETTY. NICE REPORT.

YES! Fallfish are definitely under-rated! Caught a nice smallie on the dropper too! I love a creek where you can catch 5 different types of fish on the same rig in the same day!

There's nothing wrong with fallfish and large chubs. They can get really large in Pine and some other streams plus they don't come from a stock truck! I don't know how some fish get a bad rap. To me I kind of view chubs/fallfish the same way as I do grayling up north but somehow grayling get respect.

That's one of the streams I was referring to! Fallfish seem to be larger in Pine then Kettle BUT the chubs are much larger in Kettle. I've caught some real monsters at the lower end of Leidy. They even get a nice pink color and I'm sure when holding them up the people up at the bridge think they are giant rainbows lol!

Most of the big ones I've seen caught are just below the spillway.
