While I timed it perfectly for fall foliage, my timing for good fishin wasn't so hot. The northern tier of PA is just gorgeous right now. I noticed on the drive home that below I80 things are greener and not as colorful.
Anyway, the lower DHALO water looked very nice: clear, nice flow, 52 degrees F. There were some tan caddis flittering around and some gray mayflies I couldn't identify - both were about #14s - but they brought no fish up that I could see. The local rumor was that the creek had recently received some stockies and I did see a couple fish near shore that looked like fresh stockies but I caught no fish in about 2 hours. My preferance this time of year, esp on bigger rivers, is to swing large streamers for both trout and smallies. Usually this gets a fish or two, often big, but today didn't draw a strike. With nice conditions and overcast skies I expected better. My fishing slump continues. Nevertheless, the beautiful scenery of the PA Wilds more than made up for it. Get out while you can, it's just beautiful.
