My wife and kids' gift to me on Father's Day was to allow me to get away for the morning. Fished Pickering from 8:30-11:30, downstream starting at Rt. 29 in the special reg's area. I don't know the water temp, but the air was HOT. Water was generally clear. No insect activity to speak of. Landed one 5-6" brown that looked wild, 4 stocked rainbows in the 11-14" range, two 6-7" smallies, and one 5" rock bass, all on a cream SJ Worm. Tried other flies throughout the morning with no luck, so I kept going to back to the SJW since it was working. Also hooked about an 8 lb. carp in a long slow pool on an olive conehead muddler; kept him on for a couple minutes, but couldn't do much with him on my 3 wt. Orvis Superfine Tippet. Eventually he headed into a deadfall and my leader/tippet knot decided to part company.

Saw a watersnake cross the stream and a red fox at the water's edge. Not a bad way to spend the morning.
