Fished Pickering today after the big rain. I got there at 12pm. Stream was very high. Water temp 50 degrees. Clarity was better than I expected but it was not really good.
BWO , small stone flies and midges coming off. No surface feeding activity, no fish flashing. The challenge was to keep the nymphs down deep.
I fished up stream with weighted flies. split shot and indicators.
I took six rainbows in 3 hours and lost another five. I lost the best fish of the day after it made two big jumps and threw the barbless nymph.
Two fish on a green weenie, one on a bead head prince and three on a olive caddis energer. I added a picture of the caddis nymph,bad quality, sorry. The emerger was the most productive and the takes were barely perceptble on the dead drift.
This is the highest water I would attempt to fish here. I was limited where I could cast as I definately would not attempt to wade this day. The stream level was dropping about an inch per hour and the clarity was improving as i fished.. Tomorrow shouldbe great fishing if you can get the time-I have to work.
