Pickering Creek Chester county 3/5/2011

I fished Pickering this am from 8-9:30 . I took 5 nice rainbows, no browns. The same as last week -all on a brassie fished right down on the bottom. 45 degrees,stream was clear and good depth of water in most runs. I spent 20 minutes trying to get my tippet and two fly rig out of a tree. Apologies to any one who heard me say a bad word or two.
Depending on the rain might it get blown out tomorrow.no pics I forgot my blackberry.

I went back 3/6 at 6:45 am.Got three fish in the rain, much more difficulkt than yesterday. I took two Rainbows on midge emerger patterns and one nice brown on a zebra midge down deep. Lots of fish actively chasing emergers and I could not catch them,Grr

most of my nymphing was done where you were close to shore-just a little tug and, well you know.

Nice fish Farely. I stopped by for an hour later in the day about 11:30-12:30.

They were pretty active for the first 30 minutes nailing streamers. Got 4 and missed 3 during that time. Picked up 2 on an egg and missed 3 on a small subsurface midge calling it a day.

I saw them aswell active feeding on something below the surface and there were 3 or 4 rises. Saw a few size 14 stoneflies flying around.

I've never fished an egg fly-got to try it some time.

decent looking brown for pickering...maybe a hold over. good stuff...

Agreed on that brownie. If that is a stockie or a holdover, it is very healthy looking. Maybe the PA F&BC is now stocking free-range trout that are fed a high protein and low fat diet of scuds and cress bugs rather than pellets.

Pretty sure it has hatchery origins. Nonetheless, it's a very nice fish, and been in the stream a while or else fed some good food by the PFBC.

I've caught a few "interesting" products of the PFBC in the last few years, like this guy:

hahaha, thats one odd looking fish, my buddy and I caught a bunch of fish like that on pine creek last year after a recent stock. PFBC will be confusing kids on the subject of what brown trout should look like if they keep throwing things like that in our streams
