Fished Pickering Creek twice today at three locations. First location was at the doctors at 11:00. Water was clear around 60-62 degrees. It was overcast before it rained Lots of mosquitos, not much other insects. Water was sorta low. I noticed someone had opened up all the dams, except for the lower one. I didn't see any trout except for the lower pool.
I wanted to check to see any holdovers, and I found some! I didn't think ther'd be any trout in there. I got a brookie to strike, but I didn't catch it. I caught an 11"+/- brown I managed to take a picture of on my cell phone. I will learn to get that.
The best fish I saw in that area was a 17-19" brown. I was surprised to see a trout that big in that section. I tried to take pictures of it, but I'll try to post them too - I don't know if they came out - the trout was still underwater and uncaught. It sure was a pretty fish. Saw some other trout in the lower pool at the doctors as well - surprisingly good trip!
Went back later - 5:00pm ish to try to catch that big brown - spooked it and I gave up. Water was still clear - wind obscured the pools visibility at times. Some leaves floating. No fish. Misty rain at times.
I moved downstream of Merlin to the pullover with the trash can. Didn't catch any trout, saw some carp. Then I moved on to my usual spot above Charlestown road with a friend, and he landed a nice (but skinny) 13" rainbow, and a 9-11" brook trout. Saw several more trout, and a carp or two that would pass by. Good day of fishing - I still want to catch that big one. Will post pic(s) later.
