I headed up to Green Lane today for some crappie on the fly rod, I got few but it was slow. I was hesitate to go to the fly only section because I figured the suckers should be starting to move upstream. Well, they are there and everywhere. I got about 30 suckers, while trying to catch some trout. I did get three rainbows and 5 little browns. Stones and a few caddis were around, but fished sucker spawn and caddis nymphs. Nice to see the trout from last year are still around. water temp. felt in the 50s and was 60 degrees outside and sunny.

That equals 38 fish, if you fished or 6 hours that means you caught a fish every 10 munites, I hope you were not dissapointed with your results.
 
I was there 4 or 5 days ago and caught suckers until my wrist couldn't take it any longer. They average about 12 to 14 inches. I also caught them on a small sucker spawn. At the dam, they are so thick you can't make a drift without hooking one. About 30% were hooked in the mouth and the rest were snagged. The snagged ones really give you a workout. Only managed one trout about 15in. but it sure was fun catching that many suckers.
 
Figured I'd add to this instead of starting a new thread. I fished the FFO section of the Perk at Green Lane today. Water was rather dirty with all the rain the past couple of days. Saw another guy catch a sucker when I pulled in. Fished right to the left of the dam/spillway facing down towards the bridge. Managed to land a nice 15 or so inch rainbow on a white woolly bugger once the sun came out for a little. Missed a couple other smaller ones. Nice day to be out and there are definitely at least a few trout left in there. Didn't get to walk upstream to check anywhere else out as a couple other guys showed up not long after me.
 
hurled many suckers over that dam the past 15 years or so, ashame they dont stock it like they used to. 100+ trout days were the norm back then.
 
was there yesterday and got 2 smallies and 5 bows. Hooked 3 other bows that were approaching the 15-18" range but couldn't bring to hand with 6x on. Also hooked a big LM bass. Still good days to be had, but not like the old days.

just to clarify this it upstream of the res right??? Down from the pumphouse?? Somebody said green lane?? that's not green lane is it??


Took a kayak downstream from the perky/Unami confluence last weekend. Flyfished a little but was only catching minnows that were hittin the surface. Found my buddies rod he dropped in the creek the week before and it still had the rapala lure on it, chucked it in and hooked a darn musky. I've heard they were in there but thought they were more up toward deep creek lake. Take that for what it's worth I guess.
 
Also, when you guys say this spot produced more back in the day, how many years we talking?? Didn't they used to trout stock the res also???
 
are you guys talking about the perkiomen creek above green lane reservoir if so how and where do u reach that part because I thought all that land above there was private
 
You might be thinking of the west branch above the res. The main branch runs up under church rd at a fly fishing only section and continues up past the pumphouse and knolls and also well up into hereford where I fish it. It's pretty heavily fished in that area so I can't see anyone here getting their rod bent over any spot burning stuff.

I've hiked it from the FFO section down to the res and to the best of my knowledge it's not posted at all there. Dumps out around the bird sanctuary there on the opposite side of 663 from the high school.
 
When i started flyfishing about 15 years ago the Park stocked close to a 1000 fish in this section and about 1500 in deep creek lake. The numbers have gone down every year since and they stopped stocking deep creek lake altogether which the State now stocks instead of the park. I believe the park stocks about 40-50 rainbows now in the spring, not sure about Fall stocking they used to stock then too. Back in the day there would be about 10 guys on each side of the dam trying to fish it, it was quite a circus.
 
Now I'm getting really confused ha. What does stocking deep creek have to do with trout in the FFO section above green lane res?? Perkiomen creek enters deep creek lake below the dam where they stock it right??

I was askin if the fishing was better back in the day due to the fact that I thought they used to trout stock the green lane res, which would allow the trout to run up to the fly fishing dam on church rd. if they wanted to. Trout from deep creek would have no way to get back up there, unless they chartered a chopper and flew up the green lane dam right??


Regardless my buddy says he's still doing well at the FFO dam and told me to get my *** over there sometime as he's right in east greenville as well. I'm just over in hereford, so it's hard to pass up solo fishing on the upper perkys to rub elbows at the dam in town. I'd rather hike up the hosensack honestly if I'm drivin into town.
 
Both the West Branch Perkiomen and Perkiomen Creek enter Green Lane Reservior. The Unami and East Branch Perkiomen enter below the Reserviors.
 
Ha sorry didnt mean to confuse you, I was just saying for historys sake that back in the day the Park would stock both the fly fishing area and deep creek lake with loads of trout. Im not sure if they ever stocked the reservoir with trout. The fly fishing area should be fun if the cicadas are pretty heavy in the area the next few weeks, lots of bass both SM and LM swim up there too.
 
Stopped out today for a couple hours before it got too hot. Fished near the dam. A family of geese stood guard not too far away. Caught a 14 or so inch rainbow and the small brown in the attached picture. Do they stock fish this small here?

They might stock them that small, but that's a stream bred fish no doubt.
