Penns Creek, Union Co., 5/26/16

Penns... I fished last night Several flies on water, nice drake hatch right at nightfall. Few fish taking anything on top. For the amount of flies on the water, we were surprised that the surface action was so slow. I found a few more fish taking flies in the calm water than in the riffles, but overall it was very slow fishing. Sulfurs, male and female drakes, a few black caddis, and a mix of everything else. My buddy says the fish are well fed.

I fished there Tuesday night above Cherry Run and there were just so many bugs that I think the fishing becomes that much more difficult. Was mainly March Browns and Sulphurs and Olives, but there were millions of them. Could only imagine if drakes were thrown in the mix.

I caught 4 fish from between about 4 to 7 PM nymphing, and none during spinner-fall which was kind of annoying....

Yes. Classic Penns Creek. Lots of bugs. Few rising fish. One of the most challenging streams I've ever fished. Good nymph anglers seem to do better on a consistent basis.

I have fished it a few times this season, most of my fly action has been on nymphs too. Im still working on my terminal tackle with my nymph rod, trying to dial it in for my taste and feel. Meanwhile... well, you know...
