Date and Time Fished: 09/26/2014 from 0700-1100 and 0400pm-dark.
Water Conditions: Low (around 100cfs), but the water did have a little stain to it. The water temp started in the low 60s and rose about 65 as the day progressed.
Weather Conditions: Mostly sunny with clouds on and off, and a slight breeze. I think the highest temperture was around 75, but it felt nice out.
Hatches: Caddis...Caddis...and Caddis, I saw tan caddis around size 16, a brown caddis around size 18, lots of October caddis around a size 12. Isos were also steady throughout the day along with midges. I did see a couple white flies around dark, but nothing too significant.
Results: The fishing was good. The fish were isolated to the better holding water, but they were healthy and eager to eat, once you found them. I caught a lot of small wild browns using walts worm and green weenie combos. I took a few fish in the morning on top with an elk hair caddis. We were in the right spot for the evening, as my fishing partner and I caught a bunch together on top, on various caddis patterns, rusty spinners, and stimulators. The two biggest fish of the trip happened to be rainbows, both around 14 inches and fat, one was taken in the morning on a walts worm, the other at dusk on a stimulator. Penns needs water!!! if it would have been around 250 cfs, I thing it would have been really good given the hatches. No complaints here though, a great time in a beautiful place!!!
