Penns Creek, Mifflin County, 12/5/22

Fished Penns from 1-5 on Sunday. Air was about 42 F. Caught six in total ranging from 14"-19," all on nymphs. Tried streamers as well, but didn't have any luck on those. Water wasn't too cold and at a decent flow.

Thanks for posting! I usually do at least one winter trip to Penns late this month or January. Nice fish but nicer handle 😁 After the band, yeah?

Is Penns worth a drive up to fish during the winter? Obviously its always dependent on other factors like weather, water temps, flows, etc., but all else being equal would it be worthwhile to fish Penns during the winter?

The fishing can be good if stream conditions are right, but the roads when you get near there can be really treacherous because ice and snow cover. And that's even when the road conditions seem to be good driving on the way there. Plus parking is often an issue because of snow plowed along the side of the roads. Good luck if you go.

As mentioned, those sides of the mountain that don't see much or any sun this time of year can stay icy for a long time. You can be driving along just fine and then come to one specific part that seems very sketchy, etc. If you made the drive up here to central PA just have a backup stream in mind in case the mountain roads are lousy.

Yes, sorry I should have mentioned in my post that it helps to have boots on the ground who know the conditions before taking a long ride. Even on nice days, I have run into squalls coming over the hills...

Eye catching shots of some gorgeous fish, but a bit dry for my taste.
