Penns Creek (Coburn), Centre Co, 1/26/11

First time posting here so i hope the pictures and everything work.

Went to Coburn on wednesday and had an awesome day. Started around 8 a.m. with the air temps in the mid 20's. Never did get a water temp but it was cold, my feet can attest to that.

Got into a good fish right away with a size 18 olive caddis larvae and thought i was in for a good day but it was quiet for awhile after that. A smaller one hit a size 8 stonefly a little later and that was it until i went back upstream to the car and went upstream a little ways.

This was around noon and things picked up a little bit. Another decent fish on a size 18 prince then another on the stonefly again shortly after that. Got a mess with the nymphs so i switched to a black flashabugger and second cast something snapped it off immediately so i tied on a small bucktail streamer and the 3rd or 4th cast hooked into another good size and beautifully colored trout. The snow started and it was time to head back towards the vehicle with one last cast around a large rock and the 6th and final trout was landed for the day when i decided it was time to get back over the mountain before the snow got any worse.

Can't beat that sceneary with a few winter trout to top it off.

Nice report 12PT! It's great to see some folks braving the winter weather and finding good trout fishing.

I made some minor edits to the Subject line. This might seem trivial but we try to stick to a standardized format including the date and county. This helps folks with search function.

Great post. Congrats on the fish. I love that stretch of Penns and know it well. Did you find the fish spread out or bunched up?

Seriously...if you plan to release fish, don't lay them in the snow!

Their gills freeze easily. They aren't warm-blooded creatures, they don't have an internal heater.

That said, what a great day on the stream.

Awesome looking fish. The first one with the really golden belly is really nice. Is it a different strain perhaps? It reminds me of some of the Letort fish that I've seen in pictures.
