Penns Creek, Centre County, upstream of Coburn, 6/14/12

Fished Thurs. afternoon on Penns in the open water, saw an amazing variety of different hatches, jenny spinners and size 16 BWO spinners were the most dominate flies. Also saw golden stones, 3 different caddis, slate drakes, cream cahills,cornuta duns hatching,orange cahills, eporus sulphers,and last yellow drakes. The different hatches seemed to take their turn and didn't really overlap too much,catch and released the most vividly colored wild brown in my whole 35 years of fly fishing, thought it was a brook trout, it had a reddish orange color on the belly which came up in between the spots in a saw tooth pattern, beautiful. Caught and released about a dozen wild browns to about 13-14 inches, plus some horned pouts.

Was in the same area tonight, water levels are ideal. The hatches were not as intense BWO's were very fishable,golden stones were active more so than Thursday, and cream cahills, wasn't really too much of anything else going on, caught and released another dozen or so fish to 14" including 3 rainbows this time.

Your "cornuta duns" and BWO spinners are in all likelihood the same bugs. I'm not sure if they're the cornuta or lata species myself, but definitely drunella genus, size 16ish, with duns usually mid to late morning and blackish olive spinners at dusk by the millions.

The Jenny's are AKA blue quills. P. Mollis I believe. You get the clear abdomen with the dark tipped rear end, and those wings shine in the sun. Scattered spinner falls from late morning through most of the afternoon. It's weird, you get a fall in this pool but not the next one. Then a few hours later that one gets em.

Not as familiar with "orange cahills". Could that just be a lifestage of the epeorus sulphers you were seeing? They're certainly often quite pink/orange. They could be true cahills too, though, just not sure which species.

Penns in June is always fun for the bug guys!

Nice going skip. Olive spinners were out on Friday and I did well with them on Saturday as well. They were not easy to see.

They're not easy to see, you need just the right angle of light.
