A beautiful spring day in Central Pennsylvania on Penns Creek. After a long cold winter, it was a nice break to enjoy some time quality time on the stream. I went out with Rick Nyles and Sbecker in the morning for a full day on the stream.

Weather
Temps had been above average for several days in the mid 60's prior to our trip and no rain. On our day out it had gotten over 70. We had bright blue skies.

Water
Since it had not rained water levels had been coming down steady for several days and was at ~460 CFS. Ideal levels with the water very clear. Water temps ~ 60 degrees.

Hatches
When we first got on the stream we had several Hendrickson coming off in the slower water. They lasted through the morning and slowed down after lunch. I found a Red Quills coming up in the afternoon in a few of the island runs. Not a lot of caddis to speak of and just a few BWO that recall if any.

We had a really nice morning getting into a few fish right away on Hendrickson on top. That slowed down as sun was up mid-day. There was some good luck nymphing, but that was morning of morning thing too. The afternoon was a little less productive with the bright blue sky. Not real crowded, which was nice.

A really fun day.

Nice! I was out there on Thursday as well (same stretch even) but didn’t do as well as you guys. Went back on Saturday which was nice and cloudy and had a great day. Hendricksons were hatching like crazy all afternoon and the fish were reckless. Grannoms continued into the evening and that was working too

After a bit of rain the past couple days the water levels have risen some which should make wading a bit more challenging!

After last night's rain, Penns Creek is at over 2000cfs. I would call that blown out. If there isn't more heavy rain this week, the flows might be more manageable by next weekend.
