Just returned home from 4 tough day's of fishing on Penn's. The water is very low, temperature's didn't get past 50 degrees where we were fishing. The bug activity was OFF THE HOOK. Every day at 2:00pm the water was blanketed with Sulphurs. Add in tan caddis, Grey Fox, March Brown's, midges and lot's of spinners and you have yourself A LOT of bugs. We fished in the Catch and Release section for the most part. The nymph fishing was very challenging. Usually we pick up fish on stonefly patterns but on this trip that wasn't the case. A #14 Green Copper John was the fly of choice for my brothers and I. I found out today that I would of had more luck cruising around with a Big March Brown Dry Fly, I got into some decent action this morning blind casting into the pocket water. I didn't think the Spinner Fall was that good. The bugs were there, but the risers were not, at least not where we were. I have scene that stream go crazy and it was far from that the 4 nights we fished. It was very disappointing to see that many bugs hatch all day long and have limited top water action in the Catch and Release Section. I think my earlier trip to Penn's this year got my expectations to high, 4 day's of "normal fishing" put me back into my place real quick. More detail by day on the blog.
