Penns Creek, Centre County, 11/19/2008

Had a very enjoyable day on Penns Creek with my old college friend from Harrisburg. Water was very low from my limited experience on Penns, but the fish were cooperative on both single egg patterns and small nymphs. Overall the fish were fairly large and concentrated in deeper holes. We even saw some nice surface activity on midges, but our fingers were too cold to tie on the small grifith's gnats. Also the fish appeared to be spawned out, as none of the them were dropping eggs or milt, besides we concentrated on the deeper slower holes. Good luck to all going out in the next few days and bring the hand warmers because winter has arrived.

JackM I appreciate your help with the titling of the reports. One of the aspects that attracted me to this site was the clearity and fullness of the stream reports. I look forward to contributing as best I can and possibly getting out and exploring some of these great streams with other members of the site. I do have some nice pictures of some of the browns my friend and I caught on 11/19/2008, but I had trouble getting them to show up on the post. Any tips would be appreciated.

If you read the photo upload parameters for in-post uploads, your image file must conform to the following: Maxium file size: 1000K; Allowed extensions: zip gif jpg. If they don't, the upload won't work. Two other good options are to use a photo hosting site and then surround the url for the picture in the html coding scheme: "

" (removing the quotations) or you can use the photo section to upload, then once your picture is "admitted," right-click on the full-sized picture and select properties, which will show you the uploaded photo's url, which you can then copy and paste into a post using the html codes suggested above.

I was on Penns for a bit Thursday. Blinding snowfall and 30 MPH wind. 21 degrees. 34 degree water temperature. I decided God didn't want me to fish so I went up to FFP and bought some tying materials.

Im not sure why anyone would have been driving around thursday roads were horrible

Is not worth driving on horrible roads risking your life to catch trout not to me anyhow i have a family to think about.

Well judging from the tracks there was no one else on that strectch of the stream. Here's a pic of Bear Run Road on the way to Penns. Nothing the Dodge Ram can't handle.

Bear Run Road comes off 45 below Hairy Johns. It connects to Chery Run Road through a piece of Woodward Gap Road. The second pic is just above Coburn as I was going over to Spring Mills.

Yeah now I know where you are talking about now I don't fish the lower end much couple times above Weikert at the catch and release I fish more the upper end Coburn, Ingleby, Poe paddy. Heard that then put 4,000 trout in between Glen Iron and Weikert a couple weeks ago I guess but I don't fish for stock trout.

My mother lives in Mifflinburg so I usually come in from that side and fish below Ingleby. Just fished Weikert for the first time back in August. Caught a number at the time, many were stocked fish moving up from the lower warm waters. But some were wild. I think that's about the lowest water you find wild trout. I got invited to fish some private water in the upper Weikert stretch but haven't gone yet. Maybe next week if the weather is good. There are some really big old browns down in that area.
