Penns Creek, Centre Co., 4/10/16

First time out to Penns, fished by Poe Paddy.

Saw rising trout from the parking lot. Back eddies showed midges, blue quills and BWOs on the water.

Fished the flat water to rising trout. Tried CDC BWO patterns first without any luck. Switched to a blue quill Adams pattern and it was game on. Immediately hooked up and landed 5 chunky Browns in the 12-16 inch range. Down and across casting was the trick. Was using a 12 foot long 7x leader.

I was the only one out there, left due to darkness, but the fish were still rising.

Nitpicking, but not meant to be personal, just for clarity for others: If you parked at Poe Paddy and fished in Snyder County, you walked for upwards of 30 miles!!!!

Poe Paddy State Park is in Centre County. If you go through the tunnel, you emerge in Mifflin County. If you walk 2-3 miles down past Cherry Run, you'd be in Union County. But you gotta walk WAAAAYYY downstream to get to Snyder.

Counties are confusing in that area, I know. There's 3 that all come close to each other. But none of them are Snyder.

First time out here. And as you said, the counties out here are tricky.

I was at Poe Paddy. Period. Whatever county that is in is what ever county that was in. All I know is I was catching wild Browns on dries.

And to me, that's all that matters.

I guess I just meant an Adams without the grizzly wings. I used a darker solid colored wing.

Union Cty boundry is upstream of Cherry Run. If you went south along the Union Cty boundary about 3 miles you would hit Snyder. It's about 4 - 5 miles as the crow flies to the tunnel.
