It was one of those days where everything came together. I was a little skeptical about heading to Penns this morning but I had the day off and it was nice outside so i made the trip. I got to coburn around 9:45 am and about 200 yards downstream from the top of the special regs area, I was greeted with this awesome site.

I started at the upper tunnel, as I started to get ready, I heard a few splashes. I noticed that there were a few grannoms out and about. I got my gear and walked across the bridge and started downstream. A few rises here and there but nothing consistant. A mallard drake, hen and little ones came floating downstream.

It was about 11:00 am and the grannoms picked up to the point where a few fish started to rise. The first rise I had, I was able to hook and bring in the first fish of the year. Nothing too big but I was happy. For the next hour and a half, there were a bunch of grannoms flying around and some consistant risers. I ended up with 8, catching mostly on a grannom emerger, size 14. Im guessing I had a couple pushing 16 - 17 inches. it was truely one of those days. I never had this much luck on Penns in the early season. Basically 8 fish in 90 mins. I should of had double digits but oh well. I had the whole upper special regs section to myself, a good hatch and some fish feeding. Always carry your camera, because you never know what you may see.

Nice post. I'm heading to the lower end tomorrow.

I haven't seen any Mallards with chicks yet, but now I know they've started hatching. Nice picture of the whole family.

Nice pics..might have to fish that duckling hatch sometime. Anyone got a good pattern? Big Browns!

Ah! that bridge and tunnel bring back fond memories of my mountainbike racing days! The race that seemed to never end!

Nice report and pics. Everybody seems to have a great time at Penns but me !?!?! I'm having a mysterious illness on Wed and heading up to the lower section.

FPC! There's nothing like it when it is on. Glad you hit it right and apparently fished it well. Congratulations on a fine outing.

I had a bear encounter about halfway to Ingleby down the railroad bed last thursday when fishing> he got on his back legs and did not back off was scary. lol

Great pics, love the Eagle pic...good report!

ever watched the big browns in the park in bellefonte chase a duckling? they get a few. mostly pellets though.

i was fishing last week, you'd never guess what was swimming in the stream:

A bunch of them were plummeting off a roof of a building trying to learn how to glide - right into the water. they weren't great gliders, and they weren't great swimmers either. an easy meal for a big trout! Don't run across too many trout that size though, even at night.

Ive seen several bald eagles between Coburn and Ingleby they nest there and are very active in that area.
