Penns, Centre County, 5-7-14 to 5-10-14

I believe if I find a good spot where I am catching fish, I am staying in that spot. Years ago fishing the green drake hatch you picked your spot early and waited it out. If you move you were lucky to find another spot.

I have a fly fishing buddy I fish the Gunpowder with a lot. I cover a lot of water...not impatiently so...but I will often return after catching 3 or 4 fish to find him working the same hole. I suppose that makes him a more patient fisher that I. But to each his own.

BelAirSteve, I have the same feeling. To each his own. I don't move much but many of the guys I fish with are up and down all around me. At least they know once I find a spot I won't be far and they can find me. Maybe I'm missing something but I have a good time.

I have always covered alot of water but have friends that like to stay at one place just what you prefer to do I guess.

I agree, either is fine.

Oh well, Penns will probably not be real crowded this weekend.

The gauge says 8310 cfs.

A nice fishing level is about 350-400 cfs.

Saw 2 green drakes below old mingle road 2 days ago. Pretty sure that the storm and high waters has everything screwed up for the rest of the year. this isn't the first time I have seen the big hatch happen this early. Grab your gear boys and get a spot. Remember to respect the people that have camps. Ive talked to a lot of them and there really sick of eating dust and dodging people that they refer to as as$#%les qualifying for Daytona. This weekend the circus starts!! Becareful if you attempt to wade as the high water has changed the under structure of the creek, which is another reason they may be starting early because of the bottom being so disrupted and moved around.

Based on the radar I just saw for the area I doubt Penns will be fish able for the holiday weekend.
