Penns and Elk Creeks, Centre County, PA, 6/3/17

So I am chasing the Green Drakes again on Penns Creek the first weekend in June. However they are done. Well not too bad, Penns Creek is a bug factory so Karen and I still found some decent fishing. Grey Foxes, Sulphurs, BWOs, Slate Drakes are all on the water and have the trout looking up.

Karen is quickly into a small trout on a #12 G
rey Fox Dry.

Large (Size 14 to 16 BWOs) and the Size 12 Grey Fox Dries brought up the trout.

Karen into a nice trout that took the Grey Fox.

Nice Day on the water, sunny and upper 70s near 80 degrees.

In the evening we hit nearby Elk Creek. We found trout rising to Sulphurs and Light Cahills. Even a size 14 Adams took trout.

Plenty of fish coming up right up until dark.

We are staying up here this evening so we will hit it again tomorrow before heading back to Maryland.

As of last evening Green drake duns were still hatching in good numbers near Coburn. I believe that they will still be major players for the next 2 or three days. Of course, now we're getting a fair bit of rain.

I did see some coffin flies yesterday morning but no duns during the day as I did last weekend. I did see a few duns on Elk Creek last night. Very few.

Where were duns hatching near Coburn?

I was on Penns on Friday (6/2). I fished below the trestle on tunnel road. I didn't see any duns or hatching drakes, only coffin flies fluttering around and in the trees. Less and less as you went down stream. Fish did come up for the green drake dun pattern, but refused. There was a spinner fall of coffin flies where I was that night. It was nothing like the swarms of coffin flies I've experienced earlier in the hatch in previous years, but fish were eating them.
