After talking to sandfly and he said that this stream is like a spring creek I had to see it. Well what i found was it isnt like a spring creek, it is influenced by a limestone spring creek.
We stopped at the South Branch of Oswayo Creek first. The water was low and we walked a ways downstream. Didnt see any fish but what we did find was a medium sized limestone spring that gave the water weeds and a 12 degree temperature drop. This has to be the Northern most limestone spring creek in all of PA.
We went back to the car and drove farther downstream. Where we crossed it, it didnt look the same. Somewhere along the line it lost its weeds. Another stream must have intersected it giving it more volume but enough to rid it of its beautiful aquatic vegatation. Nonetheless, this gives the stream great potential. A TU project in the making?
Later we fished Oswayo Creek from from Clara Run upstream. The water here is beautiful. Alot of deep deep pools and a mix of downed trees and undercuts making great habitat. I cant imagine this water being normal flow. The pools must be tremendous. I did catch one 16 inch stocked rainbow and missed a small wild brown trout. Time was growing thin and our hunger was out of control. We left and headed to the Coudersport McDonalds :-D
Oswayo is a very good stream by all accounts. I wish I could have given it the time it deserved. Maybe the next time I make it up there.
Here is a link about the stream and my pics are soon to come.
