Hey all-
Wanted to share a trout I caught this past week while I was up north in Maine. We had pretty good fishing over the couple days we were there, Sunday was particularly good where we caught 30-40 brookies between the two of us. Best ones from Sunday ranged from 12" to 15"~. We participated in the Oxbow Brewing All Species Tournament which was from Saturday and half of Sunday. we did OK on the warmwater species but had trouble with saltwater and the ongoing drought didn't help us for trout in the southern part of the state. Super cool tournament benefitting striped bass conservation. We cut our losses and headed north on Sunday and fished pretty hard the next two days in search of brook trout/LLS.
On Monday, we fished the upper section of the watershed we fished on Sunday with OK success. However by noon the blue bird skies and sun put the fish down big time. We decided to pivot at lunch to somewhere different, and man was I glad we did. After striking out at a couple spots due to access issues, we fished a new to us spot for a bit. I ran into another angler and we chatted for a bit and we fished nearby to each other. I started indicator nymphing as dry flies and streamers weren't doing much good at all. After a couple of casts and getting ready to move on, my indicator went down and my rod doubled over. After a several minute fight, I netted what became my personal best brook trout. 20" was the measurement per my net, but man was this fish heavy.
As luck would have it, the angler fishing nearby saw this happen and asked me if I wanted pictures when I landed it. Turns out the angler is professional photographer. So not only did I catch my PB, but he generously took several pictures for me to capture the moment.

All and all, another great trip up North.
Anyways, enough rambling, I just wanted to share that with you guys that sometimes you just get plain lucky.
