First day it was above freezing. The fish is almost definitely of dubious origin, but I'll take it for January! Didn't pester it with taping, etc, but, if it wasn't 20, it was damn well close enough. I believe that's my biggest trout on the East Coast.

Fun start to the year!

I got on the board yesterday too - after being skunked on Sunday. But it was tough sledding yesterday too. I was shocked by the number of anglers I saw and ran into. I mean it was a nice-ish day but the water was still super cold and a weekday in January you can usually get some solitude. Not yesterday.

I got the 2026 skunk off too today. Hiked 4.5 miles and 600 ft of elevation change. I’m out of shape. Was sucking wind big time on the way back up. (Had to park up top to legally access this one and hike down in.)

Was expecting Browns, but found only Brookies, landed 3 and missed a fourth. Was fun to be out in the snow/graupel squalls alternating with sunshine.

Got my first trip of 2026 in yesterday, it was raining a decent amount. First fish was a fallfish and the nicest fish is here. I saw a much bigger fish, but he had second thoughts about the fly. I’m hoping the rivers stay fishable.
