Location: Petroleum Center and points downstream
Water Temp: 43-44
Air Temp: started around 38 ended at 44; sunny and windy
Time: 830 am until 200pm
I saw sporadic rises when I arrived so I tied on a size 14 dark bodied elk hair thinking this would imitate the grannoms I heard about. I saw quite a few dark dead caddis floating in the film. I suspected that's what they were taking, but what do I know? I missed two strikes and then decided to go downstream after wasting too much time in the same spot. I nymphed in some nymphy looking spots where a lot of flies were coming off, but no luck. At about 100pm I decided to accept my skunk and head home. As a last ditch attempt, I tied on my favorite nymph (not hard to guess what it is) and proceeded to catch 8 and miss about the same amount in a modest looking run. They were mostly in the 11-12 inch range but one looked to be about 16 maybe 17inches (I didn't measure). Sorry no pics, I'm not on my own computer today.
