Water back in shape after latest rain. Only a bit murky. Sulfurs are about done. I didn't see hardly any sulfur spinners on the water in the evening. There were some chalk cahills over the water. The trout were rising surprisingly well to...whatever. There wasn't that much of any one thing. I used a sz. 14 & 12 white comparadun with high-Vis wing, and it worked well.

OK, so TODAY is the 11th. I said that the sulfurs were done. WRONG. Tonight there were a lot of sulfurs on the water after 8. I didn't see many duns, but they were there. Until this started, I did well with the aforementioned chalk cahil upwing spinner. Did better tonight than last because the sulfur spinners got more trout consistently feeding on the surface.

I fished just above Petroleum Center also Sat evening till 9:15, not many fish showing in my area till about 8:45. I saw a number of the cahill spinners after about 7:30 but no fish working. Finally caught a nice rainbow at 9:05 on a sulfur dun. I didn't see any sulfurs on the water but I agree they must have been there, something was there!

Saturday night I got off the water at 9:30 and sulphurs and cahill duns were still popping.

You have to run around until you find a glide where they are working. I don't know your familiarity with Oil Creek, but I've fished it for decades (1st fly caught trout there 1985) so I know of spots that are more 'risey' than others in different conditions. Last week (or whenever) I caught a preposterous number of trout on a sulfur spinner in such a glide. Walking downstream to leave, I passed a great piece of water that didn't have any rising fish.
Years ago, I fished rising fish in, again, a glide with some big rocks , I moved down to the Rynd Farm bridge area and saw NO risers. I went back up to this other section, and the trout were still rising. So that un-named spot is a 'risey' spot.

UPDATE 6/14: Water in unusually good shape for mid-June. Not cold, of course, but perfectly OK for rainbows. Wet wading made me intimately familiar with the water temp. Quite comfortable. Very little bug or rising activity at the mouth of Benninghoff run. Went upstream and saw just a couple rises. A few sulfur and Cahill duns. When I drove away around 920, there looked to be some mayfly spinners over the road that ran along Oil Creek, so maybe bug activity was happening at & after dark. Yeah,..no night fishing for me.

Knew they got some rain last night so watched the stream gauge this afternoon. Was up just a hair when I left today (Tuesday). When I got there -- blown out. Looks like the Yellowstone River!
