Time Fished: 8am - 10am
Weather Conditions: started out cloudy & 55 but turned to sunny and 65
Water Conditions: Clear, 62 Degrees, 132 cfs which is very low
Insects: Sz 18 Tan Caddis were in the streamside brush in good numbers but none on the stream. I saw what appeared to be 2 sulphurs hatching
I fished the open water with an old friend. We walked quite a ways from the vehicle before starting to fish (maybe 3/4 of a mile). We both fished sub surface since there was no rising (saw only 8-10 rises in 2 hours). I caught a fish in the first 10 minutes and while I was fighting it 2 other fisherman came into the hole. One stood 30 feet above me and the other 30 feet below me.
So there we were, 4 guys standing within 30 yards of each other with 3/4 of a mile of stream devoid of people. Obviously this put a cramp in my style. Swinging wet flies when you can’t move is a challenge. So I changed flies and stayed put and had strikes on nearly everything I put on but not many strikes on any one fly.
I caught 2 on soft hackles and my buddy caught none but he had 2 break him off. We left a little premature so I guess maybe it pays to crowd people.
