Oil Creek, Venango Co, 4-14-17

Air Temp was in the 70 degree range when I started fishing at 2pm. Water temp was 52 degrees. Stream was clear with a very fishable flow. Grannoms were present in good numbers. Many returned to lay eggs. Only a few rises to them. I also saw a few dozen of what appeared to be March Browns since there were 2 different sizes and they were the right color. I couldn't catch any of them to confirm.

I chose to swing 2 flies and caught 7 rainbows. When I finished at 345pm the water temp had climbed to 54. Despite the uptick in temp the fish had turned off and were no longer feeding.

Fished Oil This afternoon temp 60-72* Raining off and on. The Grannoms are on. Brought 4 to hand with dries used tandem dry and a drowned Grannom.
Flow up and color was green with about 18" visibility.

Caught a trout with a Lamprey.
"The native Ohio Lamprey (Ichthyomyzon bdellium) is found in the Allegheny River and Ohio River watersheds. In Pennsylvania, Ohio Lampreys can sometimes be seen attached to and feeding on stream fish like Smallmouth Bass, Walleyes, Redhorse Suckers and Trout. Native parasitic Lampreys, like the Ohio, are smaller than Sea Lampreys. They evolved with other native fishes, so they do not have a significant effect on populations of their host fishes. The Ohio Lamprey is a Pennsylvania state candidate species."
