Grannoms. Water clear, Mid 500's cfs. WArm. Air temp ended at about 78. Only a few risers,but that was expected at this flow. Water is just down today after quite a while to what I call 'fishable'. Started after 930. It seemed to take abit for the trout to catch on. Maybe it was the 'too much of a good thing' effect, but I wasn't connecting until later. by about 1030 I was catching stockie 'bows at a good pace. Euronymped a simple sz. 16 with peacock Ice dub, copper and Coffee CDC bead head, 2.4, 2.5, 2.3, whatever. 2.8 was a bit much without a bobber. Switched to a bobber to float the jig flies once I had fished a lot of the good looking spots in a glide and that worked well too (natch)
ONE SERIOUS NOTE ON COLOR: A few of my flies had some mediium brown dubbing mixed with the peacock ice dub. I also ribbed a few with a copper tinsel euronymph body material (somehow I have accumulated like 4 spools of very similar Euro body materials.) One of the flies I fished was noticeably more brownish/copper than the others that had more black/peacock with that greenish iridescence with either a peacock Euro body material , twisted-up for ribbing, or a brownish material with purple irridescence. They were variously the point fly and the dropper fly. The brownish/copper fly DID NOT elicit strikes (maybe a few) in either position compared to the darker more purely peacock one. Even for stockies, color can be very important. As commonly effective as any copper/peacock colored fly is, it was NOT on this day.
