Oil Creek, Venango, 06/03/09

Take it to the Hospital, 'cause the fishing on Oil Creek is SICK! Fished below Drake Well park. Water was above normal, but perfectly fine. Olives, sz, 16 were the ticket. Didn't see many sulfurs until about 8:00 and only a few. Very over-cast. It rained where I fished before I got there and rained more downstream towards Oil City, but the sky began to clear around sunset and was a beautiful red when I left. No idea how many fish I caught, but I caught 2 fish on back-to-back casts 3 times and caught 3 fish back-to-back-to-back once. Around 7:30 the light Cahill spinners were dapping on the surface. I stuck with the sz. 16 olive. With the deep overcast skies, I think size and profile were more important than color, but olives were trickling downstream the whole time. I left plenty of rising fish. It was just time to go. Fish fought VERY hard. Some rainbows went arial and flipped like the wild freaks they are.

The fishing has been consistent and much like you've described since the tuesday after Memorial Day when we got an unsuspected 10AM sulphur hatch.
The fish have been rising early morning to cranes and tiny olives, green caddis and morning BWO spinners. And then it just keeps getting better as the day progresses. It's been non-stop..all day...day after day. Different days,,different bugs, but the results are the same.
Now since the rain is finally out of the forecast, we're probably going back to the typical June Morning/Evening hatch schedule.
But, I've got to give it another try today.

Thursday,where I fished, a blanket of #22 BWO.
Sulphur spinners at 7PM and thing were looking good until the rain and lightning.
Somtimes you're just on the wrong section of stream. **it happens.
