Fished at drakes well project area Friday and Saturday. Saw some of what I am sure was Grannoms on friday but no rises. Most of the fish were newly stocked rainbows. Did ok with a mini-muddler caught 12 nice rainbows and lost as many on the downside of the drift. Hard to set hook on the end of a swing without snapping a tippet which I did. Fished both early morning and evening. Great days weather wise.

How low was the water? I was thinking of making a trip up that way this week but I'm guessing that the water level is a little low for my taste.

Dennis,
Which county is the section you were fishing in? As can be seen, we request county and date in the title line to assist with search function (date has been added). Not a big deal.
Thanks,
Dave W

This is just personal preference, but when I'm fishing streamers, especially on the swing, I don't think tippet size really matters, so don't be afraid to bump it up a few X's.

Glad you had a good day. The grannoms on Oil were a bit later than other streams this year. I'd take a good guess that's what you saw.

Fished Oil Saturday and Sunday. Both afternoons there were also little green caddis and crane flys and of course midges. Sat. Evening there were good amounts of returning Grannoms'. It's starting to look like bug soup.
Is it just me or does there seem to be fewer rising fish ? Years past there were rising fish all over by this time of the year. Because of the late spring ??

Sorry about that Dave. It is actually Venango county the section I fished, near Titusville , it is the first project water on Oil. The other project water is at Petroleum center in Venango County. I will be back over tomorrow thru Thursday fishing probably both sections and Little Brokenstraw in Warren county. The water levels were pretty good over the weekend but I see on the charts it is starting to get lower.

Yes, very few rising fish this year. i'm not sure why.
I'm hoping the dropping water level along with the bright green caddis, olives and craneflies would start to get the trout to look up.
BTW, Drakes Well is in Venango Co.
