Oil Creek; 04/25/10

Water was quite abnormally low and clear as it has been for many weeks now. Grannoms were 2 weeks early and so were the Mother's Day caddis, which, from what I can tell, are just smaller species of grannoms. I started at 8:30 and by about 9, they were everywhere. Started with 2 soft hackle sparkle pupa tight-lined and bounced back and forth between this and a sz. 16 1X short CDC caddis in chocolate brown tied on a caddis pupa hook. It made a fly about sz. 18. These caddis are pretty small.
Most fish were caught on the tight-lined wets. In fact, fishing at Blood farm, I caught about 15 out of the same run, barely moving my feet. Very nice, heavy and hard fighting and jumping rainbows. By noon, I had enough and went back home. Saturday was better for dries. Absoutely re-DONK-ulous fishing

fished oil creek on saturday and sun , the stream was on fire , little brown stones , grannoms , crane flys , smaller grannoms were all coming off along with midges too , had a blast beating the snot out of them ontop both days. can't wait for the water to receed to fishable levels

The bug that the locals call "mother's day caddis" or "bright green caddis" is actually cheumtopsyche.

Also, there are more than one species of grannom (brachycentrus) that hatch on this creek and the last to appear is about a size smaller than the early hatching bugs.

It looks like you hit both hatches as the grannoms being about done for the year and the green caddis just starting.
