I was wondering if anyone can estimate a value of this retro Fenwick spinning rod. It is in mint o condition. At least 50 years old. I bought it new. I'd like to sell it.

No idea, but I have an idea of someone who may be interested. My brother broke his favorite old rod sometime ago and wasn't able to repair or replace it. I'll mention it to him.

My brother broke the tip on one just a year or so ago. It was a rod that he'd been fishing since college/med school and he was pretty bummed.

That's why you have to single out the sold ones from the rest. You can ask anything you want, but it only counts when it's actually sold for that much.

They may be listed for between $120 and $199 but the six that sold over the past few months sold for between $34 and $99.

And only one of them was an original cork handled Fenglass F61 made in the USA. That sold for $ 80.00 plus shipping. The cheaper ones were modern Taiwanese versions.

I have a very similar UL Fenwick spinning rod, but mine is 5'6" with the slide rings, not the fixed reel seat. I bought mine back in the 70's. Wouldn't even consider getting rid of it.

Put a Mitchell 314 CAP on there with some green Trilene XL 6# and enjoy it! Carry some Copper Mepps #1 Aglias and a few Rapala size 5 in silver and gold and you’re set!

I put a Daiwa QG750 UL reel (5.1:1 gear ratio) with 4# Trilene on my Fenwick UL. If I don't use one of FTA's spinners, it's the tail half of a night crawler. 😉

I still have and use the Fenwick 146 Flea and reel that I bought with paper route money from Woolworth's in the Neshaminy Mall when I was 13. I used to ride my bike to the mall every week and make my payment until the lay-away plan was paid off for it and the Mitchell 408 I got to go with it. They'll be 43 years old in a couple of weeks.

I had it the rod redone about 20 years ago because I had bent a couple of the Aetna Foul-Proof guides on it. You couldn't buy them anywhere but a couple of rod builders on the old FAOL message board sent me the guides I needed.

I took it to Al's Fly Shop in Pottsville because he had a reputation as an excellent rod builder. I handed him the guides, and he took one look at it and said, "Give me a week, I'll have to find some of my NOS Fenwick medium brown- and cream-colored threads."

I stopped back in a week and asked, "What do I owe you?" He replaced 3 guides and the tip-top which was grooved. I expected to pay about $ 25.00 for the job. He said, "Does $ 10.00 seem fair to you?" I nearly fainted but wound up buying 3 hen necks from him to use up my budget!

Boy, you can tell I'm getting old, the Fenwick/Mitchell 408 rig is 53 years old, not 43! 🤣
