northeast wild trout sampler 1/6-1/7/06

went to 4 streams this weekend. had good luck on the first three. wild browns where the quarry. managed to catch quite a few on eggs, buggers and nymphs. got to see a beaver chewin a tree and a pack of coyotes runnin for thier lives. that did make me kinda nervous though.
the final stream i visited was the most impressive. it is a highly fertile freestone stream with many wild browns. i landed about 6 before i got something special. while fishing a large streamer in a shallow pool i had a big tug and pulled up. i was bringing in the fish after a awesome fight, complete with trying to rub me on some branches, and noticed it looked differnet. here it was a brookie. but it shear size amazed me. i marked him on my rod and released him. later i measured the mark and he was a new record for me. 16 inches! i never in my life dreamed i would beat the 15 incher i caught. and yes he was wild......a class a trout stream that hasent been stocked in ages. what a trip and what a stream. complete with runs, riffles, waterfalls and pools. i have a new favorite in the northeast. till next time.... :-D 😎

I also went to a small mountain stream on sunday, but I didn't have enough daylight to hike down to where it forms nice holes. I actually ended up hiking almost 2 hours in complete darkness. Glad I had a GPS...

You gotta start carrying a camera, so we can see these big brookies. Some of the digital cameras are compact enough to fit easily into a vest pocket or even a fishing shirt pocket, and not real expensive.

i have thought about it many times. but i hate technology. my wife pays some bills online. i hate it, i mail most of them. personally i dont like to take pictures of fish. it just delays the release. i have had some people question the many large brookies i catch, but remember this. i try to fish 3 times a week when working. right now im on layoff and fish 4-5 times a week. most people only fish about 2 times a week if lucky. so i do a months trout fishing in one week. if i was to post all my trips i would dominate the stream reports. i just post the interesting or good trips. anyways, large brookies are everywhere you just have to fish and explore alot!
