Time Fished: 715am - 840am
Weather Conditions: Sunny, 58 degrees
Water Conditions: 52 degrees, a little off color, flow was pretty fast.
Insects: Saw some Caddis and light colored midges. Nothing really happening. Only saw a few rises.
I fished a streamer to start the day off. It is my “go to” on this stream. I soon was getting strikes from the brook trout in this hole. They were on the small side but that was fine. On the first pass (through 4 holes), I had 31 strikes and landed 5 brook and 2 browns. My time was running thin so I walked back up to the most productive holes. I changed my streamer to a black ghost just because I wanted a white fly this pass. I only had 1 more strike and I caught a brown to end this time on the water. There were 4 other people fishing when I left.
Something of note. The trout tended to be hanging out about halfway down the length of the riffle to the end. This is counter to what I have seen on previous trips where fish were using all parts of the riffle. I chalked it up to the combination of the colder water temps and the swiftness of the current.
