Weather and Water:
It was a pleasant, but warm day. On and off cloud cover with temps reaching into the upper 80s. The water was stained from the paper mill effluent, but the flow was good at over 300 cfs and it was cold. The water was 58 degrees coming out of the spillway at Barnum and between 60-66 in the eleven mile area that we floated.
Hatches:
Terrestrials in the trees and very sparse midge activity. An occasional Iso was seen, but nothing steady. Crawfish were very active in the shallows.
Results:
MKerr and I had a real nice float catching wise. We had a streamer rod rigged up with a cray fish and a nymph rod with stoneflies and worms. We found one hole with some risers and hooked a small rainbow on an adams pattern. The trout were mostly eating nymphs in the pocketed fast water below heavy rapids. We took a lot of oversized fall fish and about 10 smallies in the rocky slow water area in the back of the pools. Highlights included a 19 inch fall fish that Mike caught on the crawfish pattern, and I got a 21 inch Rainbow that pulled a bunch of line and cleared the water by about 3 foot on a san juan worm.
