Weather:
It was a chili morning in the low 40s but rose to the upper 60s throughout the day. A few breezy moments, but overall very comfortable with no humidity. The weatherman called for clouds, but it was a bluebird day.
Wather Conditions:
The N. Branch has been pushing a lot of water so far this spring, but they bumped the flows down to 260 cfs, which is pretty comfortable for wading. (Well as comfortable as the N. Branch can be). The water started around 52 degrees but rose to 57 degrees as the sun warmed up. The water despite being low had a nice green tint.
Hatches:
Lots of midge swarms with a sparse blue quill hatch (18). Only a handful of caddis flies seen all day. Very little going on, but I'd imagine it got better in the evening.
Tactics:
Nymph and streamer fishing. Big golden stoneflies produced along with prince nymphs and I took several nice rainbows on a black bugger. I started swinging wetflies in the early afternoon, which produced two very nice browns from a hole that I've never taken browns from. Agressive takes, as the fly was just lifting on the swing. Ended the day catching a couple nice wild browns on the Savage using midges.
