Neshannock, Lawrence County, 10-8-11

Decided to check out the upper DHALO section in Volant today. Caught a couple on small buggers and one on a green weenie. Kinda dissapointed in the low number of fish, nobody else was really catchin much either. Stream was in decent shape and beautiful weather.

Also does anybody know what they're doing to the dam? It looked like they were cutting up logs and other debri and they just threw it below the dam, which also muddied the water a bit and there were a bunch of sticks floating downstream too.

They just stocked it sometime last week too. I would assume it would fish better, but sometimes the fall stocking is up and down with numbers from my experience. No idea on the falls.

It's only another hour or so to Erie for me, so I don't fish the Neshannock too often in the fall anymore.

I believe most of the logs they had cut up were trees that had been stuck on the dam. The dam is on it's last leg and there's talk about repairs but it seems everytime it rains hard a few more chunks fall off. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

I have heard some talk about them possibly removing it, I wasn't sure if they were starting the process or not. Maybe they were just clearing out all the debri.

ryguyfi, yeah I have noticed how the fall stocking numbers really change from year to year. I remember in some years past there were fish everywhere you would look, but last year and this year(Saturday) there were low numbers of fish I noticed.

They may have float stocked and put a lot of fish downstream. Flows were pretty good this year and would have made floating easier. In low water years the fish usually are only dumped in the upper 1/3 of the DHALO area. Ask Bob at the shop next time your there and he'll tell you whether or not they floated and to what extent.

I read on ncflyshop that only the few hundred yards behind the shop were stocked for the fall. I think it said like 7-800 fish, which is a good amount for that section. Not sure why the low catch rate.

Yeah I did talk to Bob. He said they stocked 700 and only behind the shop and just below the bridge, none were float stocked. He said none were float stocked last year either but I remember doing well in the fall in the lower DHALO section, and they seemed to be fresh stockies. 700 is a lot, but from my experience last saturday I only caught a few, and didn't even see one, where in past years I was able to see a bunch of fish as well as catching a ton. I also noticed this past spring(when it was fishable) was a little slower than others, but it just might of been me.

He also said TU stocked 200 by the shop last week.

I fished behind the shop for about at hour or so and got 7 pretty easily. Bob told me the same thing. They didn't even try floating. Sort of ironic since the last couple years they tried but the water was too low, we had water this year but no float stocking.

Spring was pretty good this year but fishing went into the crapper pretty quick when the weather got very hot. However, it has been slower overall the past couple years because the hot, dry summers wiped out a lo of fish, so there have been far fewer holdovers than normal.

It might of just been that day then. I think I only saw like seven or so fish caught total last Sat, and I got 5 of them. Don't get me wrong I did do good in the spring, but it just seemed a little slower than years past.

thats why neshannock sucks , 90% of the trout are "in town" the closer u keep people to the shop the more money for the shop ! Its actually a good business model for the shop

Fished behind the shop Tuesday and got six to hand. Figure that's not doing bad at all considering how much they get hammered there.
