Locations: A couple spots between Maitland and downtown, and the lower DHALO
Conditions: Low and clear as expcted, but honestly the flow was pretty good for this time of year. I didn't take a temp(broken thermometer, gonna have to stop at the shop and get a new one), but I heard from a reliable source that it was 60 degrees the morning before. Air temp was in the 60s to start out the day and then eventually climbed into the low 80s. Felt good to wet wade, and there was plenty of sunshine.
Fishing: Started out as a smallmouth trip, but it didn't take long to notice that the trout were active. Got a few smallish bass, and had some other fish(both bass and trout) follow/look at my streamers. The bright sun and clear water wasn't helping I'm sure. Decided to throw on some nymphs for the heck of it and started catching trout right away. Probably hooked 10 or so........so it was a pretty darn good day for an August outing.
Ended the day at the covered bridge and worked my way up a little ways. At this point I tied on a foam hopper and just used that for the rest of the day. Eventually I came across a decent brown which appeared to be actively feeding on something, and on the first cast with the hopper he rejected it, and on the second cast he slurped it right up. Didn't get a good hook set though(too much slack line). No other action up there.
All in all a nice day on the stream. Only saw two other fishermen, and one of them was a heron.
This is probably one of the better looking fish I've gotten out of Neshannock. The colors aren't there, but the fins look pretty good, plus it's got the eye/check spot. Holdover TU fish maybe??
